Incoming materials set the baseline
Verify fabric, mesh, closures, sweatbands, thread, patches, labels and packing components against the approved bill of materials. Record supplier references, quantity, color or lot, and any agreed substitution. Sample the material in a way that represents the order rather than checking a single visible roll.
Keep a retained swatch and a physical approved cap. For textured, washed, corduroy or suede-look materials, note surface direction and acceptable variation. When the buyer relies on an environmental or performance claim, attach the supporting document to the exact material and order scope.
Measure the first complete cap before a line repeats it
Line-start review should use the actual pattern, fabric, brim, closure and decoration. Measure crown depth, opening, brim length and width, closure range, logo placement and any dimensions that affect the wearer. Inspect inside construction as well as the outside.
Use a fixed setup and landmarks. A measurement without a defined position is difficult to reproduce. Photograph the setup and store the result with the sample ID. If the first piece is rejected, record the correction and recheck the next piece rather than silently substituting a later sample.

ISO 2859-1 can help the buyer and supplier discuss lot size, inspection level and acceptance sampling. It does not certify a cap, choose the right sample size for every risk or define an acceptable brim, logo or color tolerance. Those details belong in the order specification.
State whether a critical defect has zero acceptance, how major and minor findings are handled, and who may authorize rework or deviation. If the buyer and supplier use different terminology, attach the actual table or checklist to the purchase record.
